Dr. John F. Larner's Remarks

The Chairman of the OCIYAC Organizing Committee

Throughout the six months of judging, our panel of esteemed judges—including Professor Victoria Thorne from the University of Washington, Dr. John F. Larner, Chairman of the New York Contemporary Art Center, and other distinguished art scholars—has witnessed the incredible talent of the participants. Art serves as a bridge that transcends language and cultural barriers, and each piece tells a unique story, expressing profound thoughts.

The high quality and rich creativity of the works have left us in awe time and again, making the judging process both challenging and rewarding. In fact, we encountered several instances where multiple pieces received the same score, which not only reflects the extraordinary talent of the contestants but also highlights the deep understanding and interpretation of the theme by the new generation of artists.

From reflections on history to considerations of the present and visions for the future, each illustration tells a unique story that resonates deeply with our hearts. Whether through delicate brushstrokes or bold compositions, the hope for peace and concern for the future of children conveyed through these works remain with us.

Today, we are not only celebrating those artists who have earned accolades but also paying tribute to all the participants. Through your art, you have voiced a call for peace and shared prosperity for the world, demonstrating the power of art to transcend borders.
